Aylesborough Close awarded Highly Commended for Best New Neighbourhood

We are delighted to share that Aylesborough Close has been awarded Highly Commended in the Best New Neighbourhood Category at last week’s Greater Cambridge Design and Construction Awards.
This recognition celebrates the transformation of a former site of 36 outdated council homes into a vibrant new neighbourhood of 70 low-carbon council homes. Designed in line with the council’s Sustainable Housing Design Guide, the new development delivers homes that are healthier to live in and more affordable to run.
Aylesborough Close is also the first scheme to meet the council’s CamStandard, a cost-effective approach to reducing energy use that is close to Passivhaus. The project was made possible with support from Homes England and One Public Estate.
Beyond the homes, the development has been thoughtfully designed to support community wellbeing. Residents can enjoy beautifully landscaped communal spaces, including a dedicated residents’ garden, play area and horticultural zones that encourage biodiversity and community well-being.
Sustainability and inclusivity sit at the heart of the scheme. Each home features high levels of insulation, low-energy heating systems, and spacious, modern layouts that exceed national space standards. The development features a mix of one- to three-bedroom apartments across three low-rise buildings, with all homes having private outdoor space in the form of a terrace or balcony. Wheelchair accessible homes are also included, supporting residents with varying mobility needs.
The Greater Cambridge Design and Construction Awards celebrate excellence in the design and construction of the built environment across Greater Cambridge.
Congratulations to all our team for this great achievement.
