Recognition for Barnwell Square at the Government Property Awards

Cambridge Investment Partnership (CIP) has been shortlisted in the Transforming Places category at the Government Property Awards 2026 for Barnwell Square in East Barnwell.

The shortlist recognises the delivery of a major regeneration project that brings new council homes, community facilities and high-quality public space together to create a sustainable new neighbourhood.

Barnwell Square is delivering 120 new council homes, alongside a new library, community centre, preschool, café, flexible commercial space and a new public square. The scheme provides much-needed housing while strengthening community infrastructure and the public realm in East Barnwell.

The Barnwell Square development forms part of CIP’s wider programme to improve accommodation standards for people living in existing council homes, and build additional council homes to meet local need.

The project has been delivered through the joint venture partnership between Cambridge City Council and The Hill Group, alongside the wider project team and community stakeholders, bringing together public-sector ambitions, development expertise and local priorities.

Now in their seventh year, the Government Property Awards recognise outstanding developments and programmes across the public sector, celebrating excellence in areas including collaboration, sustainability, regeneration and placemaking.

The winners will be announced later this year.
